A fall DIY wedding reception at Bady’s Grove

Chrissy and Mike’s fall DIY wedding was a true celebration of family, friends, and local, seasonal inspiration. The couple knew that with their large families and many close friends, their guest list would top 200 people, so they cut costs by putting their DIY talents to work! Chrissy grew all of her stunning flowers for the day in her back yard. She also used local farm stands and produce from the area as decor and favors around the venue.

Their sweet ceremony at Jacobsburg State Park was officiated by the friends who introduced the couple in 2001, followed by a pig roast reception at Bady’s Grove in Wind Gap, Pa. The spot is a special one to Chrissy’s family and a delicious pig roast with lawn games and a perfect fall sunset was an ideal setting. Family and the bridal party decorated the pavilion with paper decorations that were made from scratch. Chrissy refers to her theme as “Paper and Pig” and if that’s not a pinterest inspiration board waiting to happen, I don’t know what is!

From Chrissy on her DIY decor:

“My sister, mom and I actually hand-picked all of the gourds and pumpkins from a family friend on the Thursday before the wedding, which was a funny story because we thought they were going to have them in crates that we’d just stop by and pick up.  We showed up and my friend’s Dad pointed out to the pumpkin patch and we were like ohhhhh shit we have to pick them ourselves!  So we made a mad dash around the pumpkin patch and picked everything in like 15 minutes because we had SO much to do that day, including putting together our bouquets and boutonnieres.  I grew my own flowers in our backyard and then I bought some greens and filler from an online shop and from our local grocery store.  We assembled all the flower arrangements on Thursday night, which was a lot of fun.  We gave apples from Scholl Orchards as our favors, and thankfully we did not have to grow or pick those ourselves!  The variety was “crimson crisp” which were just so beautiful, and super delicious too.  After we polished them and set them out on the tables at Bady’s the whole place smelled like apples, it was kind of magical. We really did a lot of work to put the wedding together because we did so many DIY projects, which was hard and stressful at times, but I think we did a good job.  It was like one big family bonding experience culminating in a marriage, which is pretty appropriate!”
