Fun Fall Wedding at the Michener Art Museum

Art Museum Wedding
Bride and Groom at the Michener Art Museum

Katie and Phil’s beautiful fall wedding at the Michener Art Museum, was a true joy to be a part of.  We always love photographing Art Museum weddings, and the James A Michener Museum in Doylestown, PA is one of our favorites.  It was a day filled beautiful artwork, loads of laughs, and family and friends eager to celebrate the couples newest adventure.

Pre-Ceremony

Katie and Phil actually RAN A MARATHON before their wedding, so they understandable decided to forgo the usual “getting ready” photos. I met them at the Michener Art Museum where we would spend the entire day.  The museum has a great set up for keeping couples who choose not to do a first look in separate areas.  I started with the guys at the outdoor ceremony site and then joined the ladies behind the museum for some pre-ceremony photos.  Katie’s dress was absolutely stunning! Her rose gold jewelry, dramatic florals and bridesmaids in black made for an elegant and beautiful look.

Outdoor Museum Ceremony

Phil and the guys constructed the chuppah themselves in the courtyard of the Michener Art Museum.  There were lots of laughs and personal moments that made the ceremony truly unique to Katie and Phil’s journey together.

Fun Bridal Party Pics

After family photos at the ceremony site, the bridal party grabbed their swords and magic wands, (because of course they needed to go play for a few minutes! )  and we headed to the front of the Michener Art Museum.  I can’t quite remember much except for laughing the entire time we were outside.

Museum Bride and Groom Portraits

The front of the Michener Museum is so lovely for bride and groom portraits.  I loved how the color of Katie’s dress blended with front of the building.  I can’t wait to see how it’ll beautiful it will look as an album cover! The staff brought them drinks and appetizers and we had such a nice, relaxing time.  I think the photos reflect a beautiful calm.

Reception

The dining room of the Michener Museum boasts a beautiful glass wall that shows off the stonework corridor behind it.   Katie’s dad gave one of the all time greatest toasts ever, one of her friends randomly donned  a T-Rex costume to surprise her.  The cake was topped with the cutest little cake topper made of mini versions of the bride and groom.

Photographer’s tip! If you’re using off camera flash, be careful of reflections.  It’s a beautiful room, but tricky to shoot well.

Night Portraits

Not all venues have a great spot for Night Portraits, but they’re essential at the Michener Art Museum! So many beautiful spots, and so close by.  We weren’t outside for more than a few minutes to grab these romantic shots.

From Katie on her VendorsI would be happy to gush about our vendors!  I can’t help but speak positively about the people we worked with.

Vendor List

Dress and Alterations: David’s Bridal
My Dress was from David’s Bridal. I had a good experience there and even used their alterations department.

My jewelry was actually from a place called Frugal Fanny’s in Norwood Massachusetts. The woman at the jewelry counter spent so much time with me and I tried on SO many things because nothing seemed to work at first

Food and Cake: Catering by Design (Lindsay Albert Coordinator)
At the Michener they require you to use their caterer, which was Catering By Design. However, this turned out to be amazing. Lindsay Albert from Catering by Design helped coordinate everything between the museum, the chef and the baker, and made the whole process so much less stressful. The food was amazing and the cake was delicious. They really worked with us to give us everything we wanted.

Cake Topper: Etsy shop “HandcraftedGladys
I absolutely love the cake topper we had made. I found a shop on Etsy “HandcraftedGladys”. I sent her a few pictures of myself, Phil, and the cats, including details of Phil’s suit and my dress. It is one of my favorite things from the whole wedding.

Dj: Austin from Flare Entertainment
Our DJ, Austin from Flare Entertainment was such a positive and delightful person to work through the whole process as well. He did a great job of keeping everyone on the dance floor all night.

Videographer:  Story Thru Video Productions
Our videographer was Greg Story with Story Thru Video Productions. He is based in Massachusetts but did us a favor. We wanted a simple video that captured the most important moments. He delivered exactly what we wanted and was very easy to work with.

Signage: The Paper Aisle
With some of the other details: the invitations, table numbers, random signage, and even the wooden sign we had made that hung from our suit of armour. We worked with The Paper Aisle. They are a small, growing company. Everything was exactly the way we wanted. Tanya, the owner, was so patient with me as I continued to send multiple emails catching errors because I read things too fast.

Flowers: Bouquets and Chuppah from Catering by Design, Centerpieces by Katie’s mom!
My mom actually did all the centerpieces and we got some of the other flower items(bouquet, flowers for the chuppah) from CBD, but we chose to do the setup ourselves to cut some cost.

  1. I love that the Michener Art Museum inspired a sword and wand fight for this couple in Doylestown, PA. Every detail was so personalized and perfectly captured by Black, White and Raw Photography. Even the way you lit her dress during the dancing showcased the lace of her skirt. Amazing work!
